This independent tour takes you by train from Copenhagen across the heart of Denmark to the charming and historic town of Aarhus, then on to delightful Odense, the birthplace of the famous Danish author, poet and teller of immortal fairytales, Hans Christian Anderson.

Itinerary

Day 1 Copenhagen Arrival

On arrival, make your own way to your hotel and day at leisure. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance of the city centre. We recommend a visit to the Tivoli Gardens, the Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace (the Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn', the Little Mermaid statue, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg, or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also enjoy the pedestrian shopping street of Strøget and it's surroundings. Overnight in Copenhagen at the Comfort Hotel Vesterbro or similar.

Day 2 Copenhagen - Aarhus By Train

Breakfast at the hotel then make your own way to Copenhagen Central Station for the train to Aarhus. Enjoy the view as you journey westward through farming countryside and small villages, some of which were founded by Vikings more than a thousand years ago. Arrive in Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city of Denmark, also known as the City of Smiles. Make your own way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is spent exploring this beautiful, small city. 2 nights in Aarhus at the Comwell Aarhus or similar.

Day 3 Aarhus Day at Leisure

Breakfast at the hotel. We recommend a visit to the Old City (Den Gamle By), the Cathedral, Moesgaard Museum of Danish Pre-history and Marselisborg Castle, the holiday residence of the Royal Family. When they are not in residence, there is free public admission to the palace park, from morning to evening. 2nd overnight in Aarhus.

Day 4 Aarhus - Odense

After breakfast at the hotel, make your own way back to the railway station to continue by train to Odense, Denmark's third largest city and Hans Christian Andersen's home town. Arrive at the station and make your own way to your hotel. We recommend a visit to H. C. Andersen's humble house, where he was born in 1805. It has since been turned into a museum dedicated to the world famous, fairy tale writer. Overnight in Odense at the Comwell H.C. Andersen or similar.

Day 5 Odense - Copenhagen

Breakfast at the hotel. Time for a last look around, Odense, before making your own way to the station. Catch the train back to Copenhagen, where your tour arrangements end upon arrival back at the Copenhagen Central Station.
