From Denmark to Sweden

Explore Copenhagen, Malmo and Gothenburg at a leisurely pace

This tour includes time in Copenhagen, Denmark's capital city, and two of Sweden's smaller cities, Malmo and Gothenburg. Malmo is a small and friendly city offering a selection of cultural attractions, quality restaurants, bistros and cafes. You can explore Malmo by boat through its canals, on foot or by bike. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and offers a variety of interesting sightseeing attractions.

Itinerary

Day 1 Copenhagen Arrival 

Arrival Copenhagen and remainder of the day at leisure. Perhaps take a walk along the streets and explore the city of the royal family, and the main street Strøget, with many shops, bars, and cafes. Enjoy the famed charms from the past and present, including the infamous Little Mermaid and the rococo Royal Palace Amalienborg. Nyhavn, originally a busy commercial port, but nowadays a popular tourist place. See house nr. 20, which was home to the famous writer H.C. Andersen. Accomodation for the next three nights in Copenhagen at the Comfort Vesterbro Hotel or similar. 

Day 2 Copenhagen: Day at Leisure 

Day at leisure to explore the capital city using your 48 hour Copenhagen Card which provides access to public transport, entrances to sightseeing attractions including museums and castles. We recommend that you take a canal tour around the harbour and the idyllic canals, passing some of Copenhagen's best sights and attractions. The guide on board will tell you about the beautiful churches, castles, historical houses, new buildings and all other sights of interest.

You should try to bike around the city as a real Copenhagener. Copenhagen is world famous for its biking culture which is as old as the bicycle itself. Copenhageners have used bicycles to transport themselves to work since the 1880s. Every morning at around 7am Copenhagen comes to life. Men in business suits, women fashionably dressed in the latest styles down to their high heel shoes and parents carrying their children in a cargo bike all hop on their bikes and get off to work or school. 

Perhaps visit Tivoli – an amusement park placed in the heart of Copenhagen. Part of Tivoli Gardens' secret is that there is something for everyone. The scenery is beautiful with exotic architecture, historic buildings, and lush gardens. At night, thousands of coloured lights create a fairy tale atmosphere that is completely unique. The rides are all designed to match Tivoli's architecture and gardens. If time allows you, you should try to bike around the city as a real Copenhagener. Day 3 Copenhagen: Day at Leisure and Optional Food Tour 

Further day at leisure to explore the city or perhaps join an optional food tour. In the past decade, Danish food has grown increasingly associated with so-called New Nordic cuisine, a movement born with the 2003 opening of Noma in Copenhagen and characterised by its modern spin on ultra-local, seasonal ingredients. 3rd overnight in Copenhagen at the Comfort Vesterbro or similar.

Day 4 Copenhagen - Malmö

This morning depart Copenhagen and travel by train towards Malmö. Enjoy the ride over the spectacular Øresund Bridge - an approximately 16 km long road and rail link between Copenhagen and Malmö. It consists of three sections: a bridge, an artificial island, and a tunnel. The southern Swedish city of Malmö provides a perfect taste of Swedish architecture, lifestyle, and culture. Remainder of the day at leisure. Spend the next two nights in Malmö at Elite Plaza Malmö or similar.

Day 5 Malmö: Day at Leisure

Day at leisure to explore Malmö on your own. Do not pass the opportunity to try the typical Swedish coffee, and cake culture at Fika. Walk through the tiny squares of the old city and stop at the famous little square. Many sculptures are to be found around the city. Or visit the Modern Museum of Malmö - one of Europe’s leading museums of modern and contemporary art, with a collection of high international standing. Malmö has one of the most beautiful exhibition spaces in Sweden. Lastly, do not miss the cities green oasis’: Slottsträdgården, and Kungsparken. 2nd overnight in Malmö at Elite Plaza Malmö or similar.

Day 6 Malmö - Gothenburg 

Stroll through the southern metropolis of Malmö in the morning before continuing your journey by train to Gothenburg.  Over the next three days you have the opportunity to explore this coastal city, famous for Volvo, magical islands, and some of the best seafood in the world. Gothenburg is the largest non-capital in the Nordics and located on the beautiful west coast of Sweden. The city is encircled by rocky shoreline, deep forests, tranquil lakes, and the surging sea to the west. No other Swedish city gives such easy access to nature. Right on the doorstep are wide open spaces and magical islands. Enjoy the many restaurants and tourist attractions that the city has to offer. Spend three nights in Gothenburg at the Comfort Gothenburg or similar.

Day 7 Gothenburg: Day at Leisure  

Today enjoy an archipelago tour by boat and discover the beautiful views of the Gothenburg archipelago while getting information from a guide on board. Lunch is included. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Gothenburg. Perhaps take a walk through the city along the famous Avenyn Avenue, Gothenburg's main street. Wander freely and admire the architecture, which with its old trams is reminiscent of a Scandinavian San Francisco Visit the famous fish hall, the boulevard Avenyn and the cozy artists’ quarter Haga. In the centre you will find numerous small navigable canals and old buildings from long ago. We recommend a visit to the beautiful Café Husaren for a taste of a huge cinnamon bun and coffee. 2nd overnight in Gothenburg at the Comfort Gothenburg or similar.

Day 8 Gothenburg: Day at Leisure  

Further day at leisure to explore Gothenburg. 3rd overnight in Gothenburg at the Comfort Gothenburg or similar.

Day 9 Gothenburg Departure 

Arrangements end after breakfast.
