Experience the Faroe Islands, including some of the more remote islands, in a truly local way as you travel through the islands by ferry and bus. Discover small village communities and their traditional ways of life. The bird paradise Mykines and the Viking island of Skúvoy are just some of the high points of this tour. Your tour arrangements include accommodation, airport transfers and excursions.
Make your own way to the Copenhagen airport for your flight to the Faroe Islands. On arrival, transfer to your accommodation on Vágar Island. The rest of the day is at leisure.
This morning travel by ferry (included) from the village of Sørvagur on Vágar Island to Mykines Island, sailing past magnificent cliff faces; the travel time is approximately 45 minutes. On arrival, disembark and check into your accommodation, then time at leisure. Mykines is the western most island of the archipelago and its rolling hills and precipitous cliffs are truly spectacular. Enjoy the tremendous views of the ocean to the west and other islands to the east as you walk across the island, dubbed the “paradise of birds” because of its magnificent and rich bird life, including hundreds of puffins nestled in burrows in the clifftops during the summer months. Dinner and overnight on the island of Mykines.
Today enjoy a guided hike to Mykinesholmur, where you can enjoy the sight of the charming and comical puffins with their colourful beaks. Walk along the footbridge across the North Atlantic Ocean, 35m above the sea, that connects this small islet with the main island, and marvel at the free standing rock formations that surround the lighthouse at the edge of the sea cliff here. You can also see many impressive gannets, which breed only on the islet. Packed lunch provided. Dinner and 2nd night on Mykines.
This morning return by ferry from Mykines to Sørvagur (included), then travel by local bus and ferry via the island of Sandoy to Skúvoy, where the famous Viking chieftain Sigmundur Brestisson built the Faroe Islands' first Christian church. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at a private home to enjoy coffee and cake - your host can also recommend some suitable self guided walks for you. Dinner and overnight on Skúvoy.
Return by ferry from Skúvoy to Sandoy, also called the Saga Island. Upon arrival on Sandoy, meet your local driver/guide for a sightseeing tour of the island, which has been inhabited since the age of the Vikings. Visit the villages as you listen to exciting sagas and stories, then continue on to the village of Skálavík. A packed lunch is included. Dinner and overnight in Skálavík.
Today travel by bus and ferry to Tórshavn, then continue by ferry to the island of Nólsoy. Perhaps walk to the top of the island, for a beautiful panoramic view of Tórshavn and the surrounding islands. Lunch today is included. Dinner and overnight in Nólsoy.
Enjoy a guided walk through the village and enjoy the island's attractions, such as Rowing Ove's boat, the "Diana Victoria" - in 1986, Ove rowed alone from the Faroe Islands to the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen! After lunch return to Tórshavn by ferry, and start exploring Tórshavn on your own. We recommend a visit to the art gallery, Faroese National Museum, The Nordic House, and the old city quarters Tinganes and Reyn. It is also possible to hike over the mountain or take a local bus from Tórshavn to the cultural centre of the islands, Kirkjubøur. Overnight in Tórshavn.
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Copenhagen. On arrival at Copenhagen airport, your tour arrangements end.
