On this leisurely driving tour through the highlights of the Faroe Islands, you will spend 2 nights in each place, so there is plenty of time to relax, and explore and enjoy the many treasures of this special place.
Flight from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands. On arrival, pick up your hire car at the airport and enjoy the rest of the day on Vágar island. Drive to the village of Gásadalur, walk along the marked path, and enjoy the impressive view of Tindhólm. Do not miss the attractive waterfall that runs down into the sea. 2 nights on Vágar.
Day trip to the bird island of Mykines. Drive to the harbour in Sørvágur, to take the ferry on an impressive trip alongside the majestic sea cliffs to the island, where you will meet your local guide. On the island you can see charming puffins with their colourful red beaks, and striking gannets that only breed on Mykines. Your guide will help you explore this fascinating place, then back in the village, perhaps enjoy a coffee at the local café, before taking the ferry back to Sørvágur, and returning to Vágar for your 2nd night.
From Vágar drive to Streymoy Island, to see the beautifully located villages of Saksun and Tjørnuvík, surrounded by steep mountains. From here, you can see the unique rock formations known as ‘The Giant and the Witch'. Then drive over the bridge that connects Streymoy and Eysturoy islands, and on towards the village of Eiði, where there is a view of Slættaratindur, the Faroe Island's highest mountain. The exceptional scenery continues as you drive on to Gjógv, to see the distinctive natural harbour. 2 nights on Eysturoy.
Drive from Leirvík through the sub-sea tunnel to Klaksvík. The tunnel is decorated with ‘light' art by the well-known Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson. When you arrive in Klaksvík, perhaps visit the elegant Christian's Church and cellar exhibition. From Klaksvik it is easy to explore the other Northern Isles, each with its own dramatic landscape. You can explore Viðareiði on Viðoy island, the archipelago's most northerly village. Or visit Kunoy island, the highest island and one of the only places where a grove of trees still grows. 2nd night on Eysturoy.
Today maybe take a walk along one of the paths at Toftavatn, which is a popular place with the locals. Afterwards drive around the lake towards the village of Nes and on to Eystnes, where there are charming windmills. Or browse the shops which sell traditional and modern Faroese yarn and woollens, local handicrafts and Faroese designed products. Then begin the drive back to Tórshavn, stopping for tea/coffee and cakes at a private home. 2 nights in Tórshavn.
Perhaps start the day by discovering Tórshavn with a walk through the old town, Tinganes and the charming area called Reyn with its small black houses and grass roofs. Visit the Nordic House, an architectural gem that hosts many local and international events. We recommend a drive to Kirkjubøur, the ancient cultural centre. Back in Tórshavn, you will find some great restaurants and cafés. 2nd night in Tórshavn.
Depending on your flight departure time you might like to add on an optional boat trip to the Vestmanna boat cliffs where sail into and through several sea caves and grottoes, a fabulous experience. Return to the airport to drop off your rental car, before your flight back to Copenhagen. Your tour arrangements end upon your arrival at Copenhagen airport.
You can also take the tour from/to Reykjavik, Bergen, Edinburgh and Billund, however if so days of departure, excursions and prices may alter.
The tour is available with 2 types of accommodation; hotels (with private facilities) or a combination of Bed & Breakfast/Guesthouses (with shared facilities).
Ferries, road and sub-sea tunnel tolls are not included (with the exception of the ferry to/from Mykines) and are to be purchased locally.
The price is based upon a certain class on flights to and from the Faroe Islands - if this class is sold out, the final price may increase, depending on the availability and cost of other classes at the time of booking.
