Winter adventures for everyone in the heart of Lapland
Snowmobiling, Finland © Visit Finland

Rovaniemi has a lot more to offer in winter time apart from just Santa Claus! Enjoy a Husky Sled Ride, a Snowmobile Safari, a Northern Lights Picnic, an Aurora Hunt by Snowmobile or Reindeer Sleigh, and more. Your tour arrangements include accommodation, airport transfers and guided excursions from Rovaniemi.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival Rovaniemi

On arrival in Rovaniemi transfer to your hotel. Time to explore the town, browse the shops or perhaps visit the fabulous Arktikum Museum.

Day 2 Husky Safari and Northern Lights Picnic

Start the day with a husky safari. The friendly barking of the excited huskies welcomes you to the local husky farm. After a brief lesson, it's time to head off - as soon as the dogs start running, all you will hear is the swish of the sled runners, as you glide quietly across the snow. Stop for a break and a hot drink and the chance to switch drivers. The average length of the trail is approximately 10km and 2 persons share each sled.

This evening join a hunt for the fabled Northern Lights! Your guide will drive you out of the city, to the best spots for today's weather, so you can enjoy the arctic night skies and relax with a light meal, whilst hopefully gazing at the Aurora.

Day 3 Snowmobile Safari into the Wilderness

Today take a short snowmobile safari along snowy tracks, past frozen rivers, lakes and forests, into the beautiful wilderness surrounding Rovaniemi. There will be a stop for hot drinks and biscuits to warm you up, and the chance to swap drivers along the way, before the return snowmobile trip. All drivers must hold a valid driver's license and 2 persons usually share each snowmobile.

Should you wish to do a longer snowmobile safari please ask us- longer safaris are available for those over 12 years of age, for a supplementary charge.

Day 4 Day at Leisure for optional activities, and Evening Aurora Hunt By Snowmobile or Reindeer Sleigh

Today explore the town, visit the shops, and relax. Or you might like to add an optional excursion - these include a visit to Ranua Wildlife Park, ice fishing or ice floating. Then tonight hunt for the Aurora by snowmobile, or whilst sitting snugly in a reindeer drawn sleigh, looking for the Northern Lights to paint the sky!

Day 5 Rovaniemi Departure

Transfer to the airport and end of arrangements.

2019-2020 departures: daily December - early April (except 19 December - 02 January)

The order of the excursions will alter according to the day of the week your arrangements start.

Snowmobile Safaris: To drive a snowmobile you must have a valid driving license and be 18 years of age, or over. All single travellers must drive their own snowmobile solo. Children over 140cm may sit as a passenger behind an adult driver on a snowmobile, only if the child is paying the adult price. Children under 140cm sit in a sled pulled by the guide's snowmobile. Children under 2 are not permitted on snowmobile safaris.

Husky Safaris: Children under 18 years usually travel in one big sled driven by the guide. During the shorter safaris a maximum of 2 adults + 2 children may be permitted to share one sled driven by the adults. During the longer safaris, 2 adults usually drive each sled in pairs and all children sit together in one big sled driven by the guide. The guide has the discretion to decide who may or may sit in a sled driven by adults and who must sit in the guide's sled for all safaris. Children under 2 are not permitted on husky safaris.

In the event of extreme weather or poor trail conditions small children may not be allowed to participate in safaris.
