Highlights of Lapland Christmas

Spend an unforgettable Christmas in magical Lapland. There are snow fun activities included for the children and Christmas baking and crafts to get into the festive spirit. Search for the Northern Lights, and experience a variety of daytime excursions. Take a snowmobile safari, ride on a dog sled with a team of friendly huskies, travel in a reindeer drawn sleigh, walk using snowshoes on trails through the forest, try ice fishing and relax in a Finnish sauna.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kittilä Arrival

Arrival at Kittilä airport and transfer to your hotel in Muonio (approximately one hour), where you will be issued with your warm outer winter clothing, for use during your stay, and your Northern Lights alarm application, which will go off to tell you if the lights are spotted during the evening, when you are in your hotel room. Remainder of the day at leisure. Dinner at the hotel.

Days 2 - 7 Winter Activities 

The next six days are filled with some amazing winter fun! Details of the excursions are shown below - the timing for each of these activities will be provided to you at check-in. Meals are served each day at the hotel restaurant. 

Husky Safari: the greatest way to see Lapland is on a silent dog sledding tour! Meet the happy huskies and enjoy an approx. 6km ride, two persons per sled. This tour takes place during the day.

Snowmobile Safari: Snowmobile through snowy forests and ice-covered lakes and enjoy beautiful Lappish landscapes. Snowmobile tours are based on two persons sharing a snowmobile. Based on two persons sharing a snowmobile.

Reindeer Farm: visit a nearby 100-year-old unique Lappish farmhouse and a reindeer museum. Test your reindeer herder skills by throwing suopunki, a Lappish lasso, and driving a 3km round in the forest with a reindeer sled.

Snowshoeing: this walk takes you out in the nearby nature while enjoying the silence of Lappish forests.

Arctic Sauna World Visit: relax in the Finnish saunas on the Lake Jerisjärvi and try out winter swimming, well known for its health benefits.

Christmas Baking and Crafts: bake traditional Finnish gingerbread cookies and make your own Christmas decoration to take home as a souvenir.

Ice Fishing: drill a hole through to the ice and learn the tricks of winter fishing.

Snow Fun: test your skills at cross country skiing and tobogganing. Children have a chance to drive their own mini snowmobile under supervision.

Day 8 Kittilä Departure

Arrangements end after breakfast with your transfer to Kittilä airport.

Notes:

Minimum Age: 4 years

Standard hotel room: fits maximum 3 persons. 1 double/twin bed and 1 sofabed with private facilities. Located in the main building.
Log cabin type A: fits maximum 2 adults and 2 children up to 11 years. Sleeping alcove with 2 beds and sofabed in main area. Private facilities, kitchen and private sauna. Located between the hotel and lake, closer to the main building and restaurant.  *22 December departure only*
Log cabin type B: fits maximum 2 adults and 4 children up to 11 years. 1 bedroom downstairs with 2 beds, mezzanine upstairs with 3 beds. Private facilities, kitchen, private sauna and fireplace. Minimum 4 persons.   *sold out for both departure dates*
Log cabin type C: fits maximum 4 adults and 3 children up to 11 years. 2 bedrooms downstairs each with 2 beds, mezzanine upstairs with 3 beds. Private facilities, kitchen, private sauna and fireplace. Minimum 4 persons.  *21 and 22 December departures*
Log cabin types B and C are located further out past the A cabins next to the forest, and include an evening dinner shuttle and 1 pack of firewood upon arrival.

The excursions operate with a minimum of 2 persons - if you are a solo traveller and there is no second person booked on an excursion, you may be required to pay additional fees in order for the excursion to proceed.

The order of the excursions may alter according to the day of the week your arrangements start or they may change subject to weather conditions and other safety reasons. 

Snowmobile Safaris: To drive a snowmobile you must have a valid driving license and be 18 years of age or over. All single travellers must drive their own snowmobile solo.

For the included excursions you are accompanied by a local, English-speaking guide.

Small children will be sitting in the guides sleighs during husky and snowmobile safaris.
