This early Winter tour provides a great taste of what Lapland has to offer. The excursions give you the opportunity to zoom off on snowmobiles, relax with the reindeer and howl with the huskies. You can try out snow shoes and seek the Northern Lights! Plus you can add an optional overnight in an Aurora Dome, with clear sided walls so you can gaze towards the northern night sky.
"What a Winter wonderland. Wonderful place. Great service and activities. Great place to view the Northern Lights. Laura, Eeva and Scotty and the rest of the staff went out of their way to see we had a great time. Activities awesome, husky sleigh rides, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile many more. Do yourself a favor and go to Finland and stay here." - TCM, Texas 2018.
This tour is available as either a 4 or 5 day package - the itinerary below is for the 5 day tour. On the 4 day tour the Reindeer Safari, Husky Safari and festive dinner all take place on Day 2 and a visit to Arctic Sauna World is not included.
Arrival at Kittilä airport and transfer to your hotel. There you will be kitted out in the warm, outer winter clothes that are yours for the duration of your stay. Remainder of the day at leisure.
This morning you will visit a husky farm, where you will have a guided tour and meet some of the delightful husky pups. Learn a little about the dogs and their role in Lappish life, before enjoying a 6km sledding safari. Two persons share the driving of each sled, with the opportunity to swap places half way through. In the afternoon, you will experience the Arctic Sauna World in Jeris. If you are brave enough you can dip in the lake and try winter swimming, which is known to have many health benefits!
After breakfast, visit the local reindeer farm to meet the reindeer and their herders. You will have a chance to feed them, learn about the culture of reindeer herding and about how to throw a lasso, before enjoying a short reindeer sled ride. Then it's time for a different sort of lunch - in an ice restaurant! Each year the Ice Restaurant and Snow Igloos are built from blocks of local ice and decorated with freizes, lights and snow sculptures. *Please note that lunch in the ice restaurant will be dependent upon the weather. If the ice restaurant is not ready or if there are extremely low temperatures, lunch will be served around the fire in a traditional kota. This afternoon there is free time to relax, explore or perhaps enjoy one of the great optional activities available. Depending upon the day of the week for your stay, you can choose from dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing and more. Tonight enjoy a special festive dinner.
This morning head out by snowmobile for a journey through the arctic landscapes. Two persons share each snowmobile and and the distance covered is about 20km. The afternoon is free, then after dinner, strap on a pair of snowshoes and walk like a local through the snowy forest. Enjoy a hot drink whilst waiting for the Northern Lights, which may come out and light the night skies!
