Bergen, called ‘the city between mountains' sits on a fjord and has many beautiful mountains surrounding it - at 624m, Mount Ulriken is the tallest of them. Bergen was one of the major hanseatic trading cities of Europe and the small city has a strong maritime heritage and a charming, historic town centre - the Bryggen area, which is now included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Enjoy a stay in Bergen - your tour arrangements include accommodation, city sightseeing by train, a fjord cruise and a trip on the funicular up Mount Floyen.
On arrival in Bergen, make your own way to your hotel. Time to enjoy the city sights. Stroll the streets of Bryggen, an area included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. In 1360, the German Hanseatic League set up offices at Bryggen, and the fine timbered houses reflect the city's history and heritage, with narrow alleyways and overhanging galleries. Three nights in Bergen at Hotel Comfort Holberg or similar.
The City Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off bus stops at the major sights and attractions in Bergen. The 13 stops include Bryggen, The Fish Market, Bergen Aquarium, Mount Fløyen Funicular Station and more. On the bus you can listen to interesting commentaries in eight different languages. Hop on and off as much as you want. Ticket is valid for one day. *Note: the Hop On Hop Off Bus is only available May - September.
Also today take a ride on the Fløibanen Funicular, just 50m from the fish market and the Bryggen wharf. The ride up to the top of the Fløyen Mountain (320m above sea level) takes 5-6 minutes - the ride itself is spectacular, and the views of Bergen only improve as you get closer to the top. Once at the top, there are many walks on the mountain to enjoy, as well as a café and viewing platform. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Enjoy deep fjords, sheer mountains, mighty waterfalls and powerful currents on this spectacular tour from Bergen along the 27km long Osterfjorden. The scenery is spectacular - as we proceed, the fjord narrows between the steep mountains, to create strong currents in the shallows and the narrow Mostraumen strait. You'll also see waterfalls as we sail right up close, to catch a bucket of ice-cold mountain water! We reach the small town of Modalen, before retracing our route through the magnificent landscape. The vessel has a café and sundecks so you can relax and marvel at the views in comfort. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Arrangements end after breakfast.
The Hop On Hop Off Bus is only available May - September.
