Welcome to Oslo, the Viking Capital of Norway, founded in 1040. Situated on Oslofjord, the city is home to many fascinating museums and beautiful green parks with sculptures. On arrival, optional private transfer to your hotel. An early evening meeting with your fellow travellers and tour escort, outlines your upcoming adventure. Departure by coach along Lake Mjøsa, heading to the 1994 Winter Olympic town of Lillehammer. We take a short break here, then continue to Lom for another brief stop to admire the dramatic, 12thC stave church - one of the largest still standing in Norway. Onwards through Otta Valley to Geiranger, for dinner and overnight at the ideally located Union Hotel Geiranger (or similar).
This morning, we take a 1hr cruise along the spectacular, UNESCO Listed, Geirangerfjord with its impressive Bridal Veil and Seven Sisters waterfalls. Arrive in Hellesylt and drive via Nordfjord along the scenic route to Skei. En route, we have a short break to enjoy Norwegian waffles with coffee. Continue past Gaular Mountain National Park for a viewpoint stop, before arriving in fjordside Balestrand. Surrounded by high mountains, in an area known for its fertile land and fruit trees, this unique spot is exceptionally beautiful. On our afternoon visit to the Cider House, we will enjoy a tasting. Dinner and overnight at Kvikne’s Hotel (or similar).
Today we experience two of the greatest delights in Norway - the spectacular Sognefjord and incredible Flåm Railway. Arrive in Gudvangen at the head of Nærøyfjord - a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with small farms scattered on steep hillsides, cascading waterfalls and towering snow-clad mtns. Board a 2hr cruise along the Nærøy and Aurland fjords; two branches of the world’s longest and deepest fjord, Sognefjord. Disembark in Flåm village and after a short rest, we board the famous Flåm Railway. As one of the world's most exceptional rail trips, there are breathtaking views at every turn as you journey up to Myrdal mountain station. Alight and cross the platform for the Bergen Railway to Voss, where your coach awaits to take you to Bergen. Two overnights in the Capital of the Fjords at Hotel Scandic Ørnen (or similar).
This morning's guided walking tour takes you along the renowned fjordside area of Bryggen, where traditional wooden buildings remain as they were during the medieval, Hanseatic League times. Also visit the Fish and Flower Market. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.
Optional panoramic bus tour along the West coast to Sotra island, enjoy wonderful views along a less travelled route (4hrs).
The Mt Fløyen funicular is a scenic journey within itself but, at the top, there are even more stunning views of Bergen and the surrounding fjord. Leaving the city behind us, we stop at the impressive Vøringsfoss waterfall (180m) before entering Hardanger Fjord area with its romantic landscape of orchards and mountains. Continue on the mountain plateau, across Hardanger Bridge, for our afternoon arrival in Geilo, a famous ski area during the winter. Dinner and overnight at Vestlia Resort (or similar).
We start our return via Hallingdal Valley and arrive in Oslo for a city tour with local guide. Famous sights include Frogner Park, with sculptures by Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland, the Royal Palace, Akershus medieval fortress, the stunning Opera House, City Hall and much more. The day ends with a visit to the Fram Museum. Dinner and overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeatret (or similar).
Your tour concludes after breakfast and check-out. Optional private transfer to the Airport, Ferry Terminal or Train Station.
