Itinerary

Day 1 Oslo

Upon arrival, make your own way to the hotel. Remainder of the day free to explore – see the Viking Ships, the Fram polar ship, Munch Museum and the historic wharf area, now bustling with cafés, bars and shops. Overnight in a deluxe room at the Hotel Continental or similar.

Day 2 Oslo - Dombas - Andalsnes - Geiranger

Train from Oslo to Dombås, then change for Andalsnes, before joining the bus along the ‘Golden Route' to Geiranger – a stretch of road with spectacular mountain roads that are engineering marvels, with picturesque and charming villages and strikingly beautiful landscapes. Dinner and overnight in a fjord view room at Hotel Union, Geiranger.

Day 3 Geiranger - Hellesylt - Stryn - Loen

Morning free to relax before midday ferry cruise on the lovely Geirangerfjord to Hellesylt, then board the bus for Stryn. Short transfer from Stryn bus station to Alexandra Hotel, Loen. On the inner Nordfjord, Loen has some of the most magnificent landscapes in Europe. Dinner and two nights in a deluxe room at the lakeside Alexandra Hotel, Loen where you will enjoy the gastronomic delights of this area. Optional Loen Skylift - cable car sightseeing ride from the fjord to the top of Mount Hoven, where you will have a 210-degree panoramic view overlooking Mt. Skåla and Lake Lovatnet in the east, Jostedalsbreen Glacier and Olden in the south, and the Nordfjord that winds its way towards Stryn in the west.

Day 4 Loen: Briksdal Glacier Excursion

Today take a bus to Briksdalen where you will board the famous quaint ‘Trollcar' for a tour of the glacier, a powerful sight stretching 1,200m down to the lush, narrow valley. An optional Safari Boat excursion on the lake in front of the glacier is offered, before returning to the hotel. 2nd overnight at Alexandra Hotel, Loen.

Day 5 Loen - Skei - Sogndal - Flåm

Board the bus via Skei for scenic Sogndal, change bus and continue on to the delightful small fjord village of Flåm. Optional RIB Heritage Taste Fjord Safari - small group cruise up the Aurlandsfjord, into the Naeroyfjord. Go ashore at the tiny village of Undredal and sample goat cheese at a local café, return to Flåm by RIB. Dinner and overnight in a balcony room at Fretheim Hotel or similar in the heart of Flåm village.

Day 6 Flåm - Myrdal - Voss - Lofthus: "Norway in a Nutshell"

Today enjoy the marvellous “Norway in a Nutshell” train journey. Travel on the famous Flåmsbanen train to Myrdal, traversing steep mountain passes as you climb past spectacular scenery and waterfalls. Change train and continue to Voss. Private taxi transfer from Voss to Lofthus in Hardanger. Dinner and overnight in a fjord view room at Ullensvang Hotel, an atmospheric hotel located right on the shores of the fjord and established in 1846.

Day 7 Lofthus - Norheimsund - Bergen

Morning at leisure in the beautiful Hardanger area. Perhaps enjoy a hiking tour or visit a cider farm, before taking the afternoon boat along Hardangerfjord to Norheimsund, then onto the Bergen bound bus. Upon your arrival into Bergen make your own way to the hotel. Overnight in a deluxe room with a sea view at Clarion Collection Havnekontoret or similar.

Day 8 Bergen Departure

Arrangements end after breakfast.


2020 departures: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from mid-June to mid-August.
