This tour starts with time in Norway's capital Oslo, then continues on to the Olympic city of Lillehammer and to the Art Nouveau glories of Ålesund. From here, cruise the beautiful Geirangerfjord to Geiranger, then travel to Sogndal past the three fjords of Sognefjord, Geirangerfjord and Nordfjord, before a final cruise on the Sognefjord to reach the Hanseatic city of Bergen.
On arrival, make your own way to your hotel. Make your own way to Oslo Central Rail Station for your train to Lillehammer. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel. Learn about Norway's cultural history at Maihaugen and Bjerkebæk, an open-air museum within walking distance of the town which provides an insight into what it has been like to live and work in Norway over the past 500 years. Visit Lillehammer Art Museum to see the numerous works by famous Norwegian artists such as Fritz Thaulow and Edvard Munch, explore the arenas built for the 1994 Winter Olympics and see the Norwegian Olympic Museum. Make your own way to Lillehammer Central Rail Station and take the train north through Romsdalen Valley to Dombås, then continue on the spectacular Rauma Railway along Rauma River to Åndalsnes. The Rauma railway is 114km long and offers amazing views of the passing scenery, with a highlight being the old stone Kylling Bridge. From Åndalsnes, continue your journey by coach to Ålesund. Day at leisure. Beautifully surrounded by mountains and fjords, Ålesund is Norway's 'Art Nouveau' city and is full of charming buildings. Take a stroll in the magnificent central district and marvel at the beautiful houses with their elaborate towers, spires and ornaments, stroll the banks of the scenic Brosundet canal that runs through the town, visit one of the nearby islands, or the city aquarium. 2nd night in Alesund.
Depart Ålesund by ferry and cruise to Geiranger on the glorious Geirangerfjord. Watch the scenery pass by as your vessel travels past waterfalls, as well as rustic farms situated high on green mountainsides. The area's unique natural surroundings have been created by glaciers carving out deep fjords and creating such high mountains. This entire area is often said to be one of the world's most spectacular. Arrive in Geiranger and walk the short distance from the pier to your hotel. Overnight at the Union Hotel or similar.
The morning is free to relax and enjoy the charms of Geiranger. This afternoon, make your own way to the bus station and take the UNESCO Fjord Bus journey from Geiranger to Sogndal. As you travel along you will see the three amazing fjords Sognefjord, Geirangerfjord and Nordfjord, a delightful route through the most spectacular region in Norway, showcasing towering peaks, roaring waterfalls, charming villages and idyllic farmland. Today is all about experiencing more Norwegian fjords and wondrous scenery as you journey along scenic waterways, surrounded by sky-high mountains, with green landscapes and tiny farms dotting the way. Cruise from Sogndal along the glorious Sognefjord – the largest and deepest of Norway's fjords - to arrive into the Hanseatic city of Bergen. Disembark and make your own way to your hotel. Sitting at the fjord's end, Bergen is surrounded by seven mountains, with Mt Ulriken being the highest (624m). Once one of Europe's major Hanseatic trading cities, it still has strong ties to its maritime heritage and the historic town centre, Bryggen, is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. You could take Fløibanen Funicular, just 50m from the Fish and Flower Market, to the top of Fløyen Mountain (320m). At just 5-6mins, the ride is spectacular and views of Bergen only improve as you reach the top. Once there, enjoy Bergen and the fjord below from the viewing platform, take various walking tracks and enjoy the café. 2nd overnight in Bergen.
