A great introduction to dog sledding in Norwegian Lapland. Start the tour with pick up in Kirkenes, and from there transfer to the husky farm in the remote Pasvik Valley, near the Russian border. After an exciting husky sled safari through the primeval forests, enjoy one night in a comfortable and cosy guesthouse. Here, far away from any light pollution, just step outside and look up to search for the fabled Northern Lights. No prior experience of dog sledding is needed - just a spirit of adventure!
"Second visit in the Winter this time for a Husky tour. We did an overnight tour to a wilderness cabin. A brilliant interactive time helping with the dogs (all really friendly) and driving the sled, "unlike other companies" we had a very experienced tour guide, they gave us a good briefing session. Stef kept us relaxed and entertained throughout our time in well below freezing temperatures, stopping and checking we were comfortable at regular intervals. Back at our accommodation in the guest house we were treated to food untried before like King crab soup and Rein deer stew, both delicious. We were even treated to the Aurora borealis on two nights. All in all a magical trip to Northern Norway and the Pasvik Valley." - Stewart, U.K. 2017
From Kirkenes transfer from the town, the airport or from the Hurtigruten ferry wharf (the ferry arrives into Kirkenes around 9am) to the guesthouse and husky farm, a trip of about 1hr through the beautiful Pasvik Valley, which has one of the largest remaining primeval forests in Europe. Enjoy a warm lunch.
Get suited up in appropriate winter gear, before we head to the kennels for the evening dog sledding tour. Here you will meet the happy dogs and get some driving lessons and safety instructions. After that, we head out on an approximately 10km husky safari, with 2 persons per sled and the opportunity to swap drivers along the way. After the tour, help to feed and kennel the dogs, then enjoy a traditional dinner made from locally sourced ingredients, served in a Sami lavvuu or tent.
After dinner, gather around the fire or lie on reindeer skins outside, whilst watching for the Northern Lights that might be dancing over the sky! Then retire for the night. The cosy guesthouse has a variety of rooms including one single room with shared bathroom, one twin room with shared bathroom, one twin room with private bathroom, one double room with private bathroom and a family room with shared bathroom.
This morning enjoy breakfast before transferring back to Kirkenes.
