Kirkenes Classic Break

An ideal addition to any Classic Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage

Kirkenes, in the very far north of Norway near the Russian border, is famous for freshly caught North Sea King Crabs and Snowhotel Kirkenes. This overnight stay is an ideal addition to any Classic Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage. The Hurtigruten Classic Voyage North ends with arrival here around 09:00hrs, whilst the Hurtigruten Classic Voyage South starts at 12:30hrs. Choose to stay overnight in a hotel in the city or in a Gamme Cabin at the Snowhotel Kirkenes.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kirkenes Arrival and Sightseeing to the Russian Border 

Transfer from Kirkenes Airport or Hurtigruten wharf to your hotel. Check in and time at leisure, before mid-afternoon pick-up from your accommodation to join a 2 hour guided coach sightseeing tour of Kirkenes and to the Russian border. Learn about Kirkenes's history, daily life, relationship to Russia, climate and much more. The guided tour through the town of Kirkenes and surrounding areas includes a visit to two viewpoints, the Russian border and the mining town. The mining town of Bjørnevatn, closed in 1996 and re-opened in 2009 - here we gain an insight into 90 years of mining history. After the tour transfer back to your accommodation. Overnight at Scandic Hotel or similar in Kirkenes or a warm Gamme Cabin at Snowhotel Kirkenes.

Day 2 Kirkenes: King Crab Safari and departure

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel for your 3 hour King Crab Safari by boat. Once the crabs are caught they are freshly cooked, so you can enjoy a fabulous King Crab meal, with coffee or tea. After the safari, transfer to the airport or wharf and end of arrangements.
