Tromso and Malangen

Winter excursions from Tromso and Malangen Resort

This tour begins from your hotel base in Tromso, a charming town in northern Norway above the Arctic Circle. Transfer to Malangen Resort for two nights stay, located 1.5 hours from Tromso along some of the most picturesque fjords of Norway. Here you will stay in a sea view Rorbu cabin facing the fjords. Enjoy Northern Lights Hunting, a Husky Safari and time for relaxation or optional activities.


Day 1 Tromso Arrival

Private transfer from Tromso Airport to Clarion Collection Aurora Hotel Tromso or similar, and check in for 1 night accommodation. Remainder of day at leisure to explore Tromso.

Day 2 Tromso – Malangsfjord: optional activities and Northern Lights Watch

Morning transfer from Tromso hotel to Malangen Resort, approximately 1.5hr journey. The resort is located in an idyllic setting by the Malangsfjord, surrounded by beautiful nature and mountains. Low light pollution makes the resort a great place to seek the Northern Lights. Upon arrival, you will settle into a Rorbu fisherman’s cabin with sea view or similar.

Afternoon at leisure or time for an optional excursion:
Optional Sami Storytelling and Reindeer Feeding: The Sami are the indigenous people living in Europe’s northern extremes. Enter a lavvu (Sami tent) with a Sami specialist and hear fascinating stories about the way of life of the indigenous Sami people by the glow of the open fire. See traditional artifacts and taste authentic Sami food cooked on the fire. Visit and feed the nearby reindeer and learn about the traditions of reindeer herding. As a souvenir of this memorable experience, the guide will assist you to make your very own handicraft from reindeer antler. 4 hours duration.
Optional Trappers Day on Snowshoes: This exciting and informative tour combines the joys of snowshoeing through the beautiful silence of the snowy forest with a knowledgeable wilderness guide. Learn how to make a fire with a magnesium stone and a variety of other wilderness skills. Learn about local flora and fauna, keep an eye out for willow grouse or Arctic hare. 3.5 hours duration.

Evening guided Northern Lights Watch activity. You will be transferred to nearby Camp Nikka, located in an area with less cloud activity. Enjoy a light meal and hot drinks by an open fire in a cosy lavvu. With some luck the Northern Lights may appear. 

Day 3 Husky Safari and optional activities

This morning, you will participate on a guided Husky Safari. Located near Camp Nikka, there is a group of eager huskies waiting to take you into the wilderness. Lead a team of eager huskies through the snow-covered Arctic landscape while admiring the breathtaking scenery. Drive in pairs, with a chance to swap places along the way. The adventure concludes with a light snack by an open fire.

Optional Sami Storytelling and Reindeer Feeding 4 hours.
Optional Trappers Day on Snowshoes 3.5 hours.

Evening optional excursion:
Optional Northern Lights Snowshoeing: get out and about in the white winter landscape above the resort. A guided walk away from artificial light sources, find open areas that are ideal for observing and photographing the Northern Lights - should they appear. The guide will provide a detailed explanation about the Northern Lights and assist with camera settings. Stop along the way for snacks by a bonfire, before walking back to the resort. Duration 4 hours.

Second overnight at Malangen Resort.

Day 4 Malangensfjord - Tromso: optional activities

Morning transfer from Malangen Resort to Tromso. Overnight at Clarion Collection Aurora Hotel or similar. 

Remainder of the day at leisure or time for an optional excursion:
Optional Evening Snowmobile Safari: coach transport to Camp Tamok, followed by a guided snowmobile safari between snow-covered mountains to a frozen lake. Lake Finn marks the halfway point of the adventure and is a good place to take photos, play in the snow and in good weather conditions with some luck, witness the Northern Lights. Drive in pairs with one driver and one passenger per snowmobile. There is also a chance to swap drivers along the way, before the return snowmobile trip. All drivers must hold a valid driver's licence. Duration 7 hours.

Day 5 Tromso Departure

Private transfer from hotel to Tromso airport. End of arrangements.
