Snowmobile to a remote boutique hotel in the wilderness
Isfjord Radio, Spitsbergen © Malin Stark

Join a wonderful and easy guided snowmobile expedition from Longyearbyen to beautiful Isfjord Radio. Here you will find a remote boutique hotel, the last post before Greenland, with a level of quality and comfort that is unexpected so far into the wilderness. During this expedition you will ride over glaciers, mountains and frozen fjords, and visit fascinating historical sites, experiencing stillness and a light that is difficult to find in other places. If you are lucky, you may even glimpse the 'King of the Arctic', the Polar Bear! Your tour arrangements include accommodation, use of outer Winter clothing, airport transfers and a guided overnight snowmobile safari. No previous experience is necessary - your friendly and professional guides will assist you all the way.

"What an experience! Surreal luxury both at Isfjord and in Longyearbyen, you get the chance to act like a polar hero, but still have modern comforts within reach. Isfjorden radio is worth the trip all by itself, a remote outpost and a boutique hotel all in one." - Preben F, 2018

Day 1 Longyearbyen Arrival

On arrival in Longyearbyen, transfer to your hotel. Time to explore the town - perhaps visit the Svalbard Museum, the North Pole Expedition Museum and the Svalbard Kirke, or browse the shops for a unique souvenir. Overnight at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen.

Day 2 Longyearbyen - Isfjord Radio: Glaciers, Mountains and Fjords

At 10:00am meet your guide at your hotel. First there is a briefing about the coming trip, possible routes, the equipment and the warm outer clothing. Then, after a lesson in snowmobile driving and safety, you head out to the wilderness. No previous experience is necessary - your friendly and professional guides will assist you all the way! You will drive over glaciers, past snow covered mountains and frozen fjords, while admiring the magnificent Arctic landscape of blue and white. Enjoy an expedition lunch on the way and experience the stillness and silence of the Arctic, something that is astonishing and wonderful and difficult to find in other more settled places. Late afternoon arrival at Isfjord Radio, a remote boutique hotel 90km from Longyearbyen, where the staff will warmly welcome you and serve you a delicious 3-course meal.

Day 3 Isford Radio - Longyearbyen: Landscapes & Arctic Mining Town

This morning head into the beautiful landscapes around the hotel by snowmobile. Your guide chooses the day's route, depending on the weather and snow conditions. If the weather is good you may visit the Russian mining town of Barentsburg, home to some 300 persons, where you can get a feeling for life in an isolated Arctic town, visit some Russian buildings and learn about the history of Spitsbergen. Then it's time to head back to Longyearbyen, and overnight at Basecamp Hotel.
