Situated 200km north of the Arctic Circle, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, creates wondrous Ice Rooms and Suites, using vast blocks of ice harvested from the nearby River Torne. Built in different stages, upon completion the Icehotel has individual rooms & suites, some with uniquely hand-crafted, ice & snow sculptures, an ice chapel & the famous Absolut Ice Bar. The hotel also has warm, stylish hotel room accommodation and a restaurant with locally inspired menu selections. Spend 1 night in an Ice Room and 2 nights in 'warm' hotel accommodation, search for the Northern Lights by snowmobile, enjoy a reindeer-sleigh ride with a glimpse of Sami culture, experience dog-sledding and also have plenty of time at leisure for enjoying your remarkable surroundings. There are some great additional optional activities you can add, such as Ice Sculpting, Horseback Riding, Northern Lights Photography and Cross Country Skiing. You can also (depending on your flight times) add a transfer by dog sled to or from Kiruna airport!

Itinerary

Day 1 Kiruna Arrival, Icehotel and Northern Lights Hunt By Snowmobile

On arrival at Kiruna Airport or Train Station, shuttle transfer to the Icehotel and check in. Time at leisure until your evening Northern Lights Hunt by Snowmobile - you'll enjoy a very special atmosphere as you venture into the dark, Arctic night. Dinner by the campfire is included - out in the wilderness here, you only have to look up to search for the Aurora! Tonight and tomorrow are spent in warm accommodation, in stylish rooms with private facilities.

Day 2 Husky Safari

Today experience a fantastic dog-sledding safari. On this hands-on dog sled tour you will learn to run your own team of huskies and get an interesting insight into the musher’s adventurous life in the last wilderness of Europe. There is nothing like the sensation of a team of friendly dogs whisking you almost silently along forest tracks. A traditional lunch is served at a wilderness camp along the way. If you would prefer not to drive the dog sled yourself, there is an option to participate as a passenger. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3 Reindeer Safari & Sami Culture and Overnight in Ice Room

Time to relax before joining a local herder on a visit to a nearby reindeer farm. Meet the reindeer, enjoy a short sleigh ride, learn about the importance of reindeer in traditional Lapland life and Sami Culture, and have a snack by the fire. This evening prepare to experience the Ice Room! Surrounded by silence and wrapped in a thermal sleeping bag, you will sleep on a comfy thick mattress, covered with reindeer skins, on a bed built from a block of ice. Changing rooms, toilets and saunas are right nearby in the warm section of the hotel.

Day 4 Kiruna Departure

This morning, wake up to a hot lingonberry juice in bed, before enjoying a morning sauna and breakfast. Arrangements end today with your shuttle transfer to Kiruna Airport or Train Station.

2024-2025 departures: daily December - mid April (except 19 December - 02 January)
