Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges. With 750 years of history and a rich cultural life, this is a truly extraordinary place. Your tour arrangements include accommodation and guided excursions.
Upon arrival in Stockholm make your own way to your hotel, then time at leisure. Perhaps visit the Vasa Museum - the impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. She has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging. Also walk the charming streets of the famous old town, Gamla Stan, and enjoy sitting in the many bars, cafes and restaurants, to watch the passing parade. Or indulge in some Nordic shopping in the many quirky boutiques and homeware stores. 3 nights at First Hotel Kungsbron (3*) or Clarion Sign Hotel (4*) or similar.
Today enjoy a panoramic bus tour through the central city districts, past many landmarks including the Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings, Djurgården Island, Skansen open-air museum and the old town, Gamla Stan, with its narrow cobbled streets and numerous antique shops. Then travel by boat under 15 bridges and through 2 locks connecting the Baltic Sea with Lake Mälaren, past the inner city and old town, the islands of Södermalm, Lilla and Stora Essingen, and the peaceful green area of Djurgården. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Today visit Sweden's best-preserved royal castle and the private residence of the Royal Family, Drottningholm Palace. Situated on an island on Lake Mälaren and built in the 1600's, the Palace is a magnificent and historic building. Travel on a century-old steamer to this world heritage site. Your visit includes entrance to the State Apartments, the Chinese Pavilion and the beautiful landscaped gardens.
Arrangements end after breakfast.
